What is coaching?

Let’s start with what coaching is not:

  • Coaching is not therapy/counseling. Therapy and counseling are important tools, but they look into the past and seek to understand past events and behaviors. Coaching is future focused and solution oriented.

  • Coaching is not mentoring. Mentoring provides advice and guidance in a particular subject matter. Coaching provides a space for clients to solve their own challenges through holding space for a client and asking meaningful questions .

  • Coaching is not consulting. A consultant offers solutions and best practices based on their experience, they are sharing their knowledge with the client. Coaching assumes that a client already has the solution, they just need some help finding it.

In a coaching session, you’ll decide where you need help and what help looks like to you. Using coaching tools and conversations, we’ll work together to find many possible solutions to your situation. You’ll choose the solution that is most meaningful for you and you’ll commit to that action.

My role is to hold what’s called ‘coach position’. I create a space for you so that you can explore and uncover what’s behind your current situation, what you have control over, and what solutions support your values. My goal is to ensure that you leave our session having had a meaningful conversation and with motivation to move forward in your life.

I look forward to working with you!
