Girl from Ipanema
36″ x 24″ on two 36″ x 12″ panels
I like to listen to music in my studio. As I worked, the Girl from Ipanema came on and this piece took on a life of its own. This is the music I heard in the 60s when the grown ups were having sophisticated cocktail parties. It’s an era that’s been lovingly recreated in series like Mad Men, but the reality was very different. While style was king, social changes were everywhere and life was challenging for those outside of the strict social norms.
In this work I celebrate the style I so much enjoy from that era. Fun, whimsical, mod. Groovy!
